That is just plain sad. Of course, they sent women to the looney bin for PMS then too. There's some old records on line from the State Hospital at Chattahoochee. Most of those in it were women and it seems the symptoms were not all that uncommon today but were feared by the hubby's then. Guess they shipped em off and got a new one.

The book series I really enjoy by the Gears, The People of, is a very indepth picture of the early Americans. The Northern Indians had some rituals they believed would help get them through the 'fire sky' times. It had to be confusing for anyone not educated in Science and that type of education was not all that common. That may be why the Medicine Man had more power than the Chief.

Many of what we consider acts of nature were really considered to be portals to bad stuff. Maybe they weren't all that wrong. Something to think about. We have modern technology but it still cannot stop a hurricane. If we could, would we? Sometimes it may be mother natures way of cleaning out the trash. I've never seen the Northern Lights, if I do, I think I might have to have a rabbits foot with me. If this cycle begins again, wonder what is going to happen?
