Well since we don't know who thought this up or if it had more to do with the family's social standing, the number may have been not all that important. The poor girl in Red was stuck with a dress she probably couldn't wear again unless she ended up at Miss Belles. It's kind of interesting, that little melodrama. It had to have been thought up by an older person. How many young women really spent much time of politics then? To quote Lula, (don't ask. But, how many states still had slavery going on between April and December, 1865?
