[“Thanks, massa. Southern gemmen always so –reprime as if we don’t ‘tend ‘em right, but they always give us a dollar or tow foe dey leave. But dese Abolishan gemmen mighty hard to suit, and require so much ‘tention, an when dey leave shake your hand, look up to de sky, an say: ‘God bless you, my unfortunate fren, and elevate you in de scale of humanity,’ or something like dat, but never give us a dolloar to elevate use.” ]

I can’t stop laughing, sorry. Gotta get myself together!!! The cheapskates!!!! It didn’t get a whole lot better any faster for em either. The elevator was in a building with just one floor. Sounds like this was Ebonics 101.

[“Mr. Douglas is telling the Pennsylvanians that what is needed for the country is a proper tariff…”]

Why is that sounding familiar? With all of the other reports of very ugly stuff happening, this is his answer? I don’t think I’d vote for him. Sounds like he’s living under a rock.

[“*********************The New Orleans Commercial Bulletin********************
Abolitionist Complaining of the Darkies.- The recent pin nics of colored people, and some white persons, too, at Edgewood, near Chesnut Hill, have excited the deepest indignation on the part of residents and property holders in that vicinity. A pic nic meeting, a day or two since, consisted of over four thousand colored people, some of whom committed shameful outrages on property. Fences were broken down, fruit stolen, gardens ravaged and respectable persons insulted. Some limit should be placed to this kind of thing, or the value of property in that locality will depreciate. – Philadelphia Pennsylvanian”]

Lowering property values? I guess if the destruction were bad enough but from the report you might think a tornado had touched down. Ok, unconfused me. Did this happen in New Orleans area and the Philadelphia paper reported it or it happened in Philadelphia and the New Orleans paper reported it? Considering the behavior patterns in that time, this does seem a bit unruly. Early Woodstock is my guess.

The report from Talladega is another new one for me. Seems like there was more than some beatin n bangin at turn four. If we are now seeing these reports and even if some may carry over to the next day, there’s more than enough information that it’s so widespread it would make anyone uneasy.
