I know the Red Bluff area, fish there sometimes. I can see how the article might be referring to this area, but it is a good distance from the lighthouse. It is also possible near the lighthouse there would have been small tidal bluffs caused by the ebb and flow of the tides and currents. I am guessing that the building of the beach and seawall may have erased any natural bluff shape to the land.

Can you find a similar map showing the mouth of the Pearl River about 1861 as compared to today? My grandfather in his letters gave a camp for the 7th Mississippi as being 2 miles north of the mouth of the Pearl River. To my knowledge the location of the camp has never been found. I plan to try and locate the camp this fall when the weather cools and the gnats aren’t so bad. If you can find a GPS location for this camp that would be even better
