Even though the Union did take over kinda early, the story of Gen Chase being involved in the transfer of Pickens to Union hands is sad. He couldn't do it. Another had to speak the words. After building all 3 forts, he could not bring himself to just give em up. Maybe that's why they just poured asphalt over his grave and turned it into a parking lot. Very unkind thing to do.
