I read somewhere, many years ago, about men engaged in a hot fight would raise their hand above the headlog, hoping for a minor wound. I think it might have been in "Company Aitch" by Sam Watkins, but I am not sure. Those old boys couldn't bring themselves to run, and face the opprobrium of their comrades, but a wound gave them an out without disgrace. Stan
