The terminalogy that is used is always determined by the writers perspective. The term "Union Army" or "Federal Army" are only derogatory terms from a southerners perspective. When you use these terms a southerner knows that it was an army of invasion, opression, and surpression. That distaste/distrust of the "Federal" United States Army lasted into the 20th century in the south during the Spanish American War and World War I. Why else was Joe Wheeler appointed as General to command the United States Army during the Spanish American War?
