Edward, Lincoln's death was in no way tied to the Confederacy. Booth acted on his own for his own reasons. The Confederacy denounced the cowardly attack and disavowed any part in it. The killing of army officers on the field of battle is honorable. Shooting someone in the back of the head at a theater is not. Booth is responsible at least in part for the suffering of the post war period. Lincoln had told Grant to "Let 'em up easy," which he did at Appomattox. When Sherman granted similar terms to Johnston, he was told to renegotiate. Lincoln was not a casualty of war, but of Booth's arrogance. Stan
