In Response To: Re: Union army, Union soldiers ()

Jake, I'm sorry that I got your name wrong on my reply. That was a typo. And no, sarcasm isn't my usual MO. I made my comment on the original post too. Maybe you didn't read it. My post alluded to the fact that "Lincoln's Army" didn't do anything to UNITE. Thus "UNION" wouldn't qualify. War is about killing and destroying things. And they did it very well. But fact is that until the last days of the war no Confederate "army" was every taken on the battlefield. Casualties being what they were NO decision was made on the battlefield where all forces surrendered and quit. Until the end. Not at Gettysburg, Shiloh, Nashville, anywhere. If Gettysburg was such a huge FEDERAL victory then why did they not pursue with vigor, the ANV back across the Potomac? Why could they not mount another offensive campaign, excluding the minor Mine Run adventure until the spring of 1864? Because they got their butt spanked, big time. And by the way, when I refer to the Army of Tennessee, they didn't wear blue. Sorry if I offedend you . That was not my intention.

Keith
