I might add that many documents/ledgers/papers, etc. are of odd, large, sizes and difficult to handle. Let alone, try to copy.

Additionally, hand written entries, in ink, have in many cases, faded so badly over the years, as to be unreadable.

Bringing an easy to use magnifying glass should be part of your kit. I'd put one on a lanyard to wear around the neck.

Compiled Service Records are found in the Microfilm room and have to be ordered there, separately from those found by
the Research Assistants. If I remember correctly, they must be viewed in a separate area of the Reading Room.

I found one Union Officer's widow's pension file. It was hugh, in two folders. The more important papers were bound with
a pink ribbon, used similar to our modern ACCO fastener systems. You do not undo.
