George, I have said, now several times, that I certainly do not claim that blacks, or slaves, did not ever serve in the Confederate military. If you find that quote from me, please post it.
What I have said repeatedly is that many CSA leaders themselves said, and at that very time, and through their own observations, not hindsight, they saw a real need to arm slaves, in large and perhaps offer them emancipation, if they would fight for the Confederacy. Now either those leaders were delusional or you are correct, and it was a non issue that required no action in 1863, or 1864 and was already in operation with no need for any further action or discussion.
Since the CSA executive and legislative branches gave this matter a great deal of thought and attention in 1865, as the CSA sank, I guess maybe they mistakenly saw a need there that you don't?
