I also wonder where you get your idea for you point of view. I hardly think it is your own since I have had the chance to glance at a book posing a similar argument. Seems to me you are defending this book.
The CSA leadership was just over 2 years old when the issue was first raised. The southern armies were a very formidable force to contend with and were winning battles. In '64, Davis gave his reasons why he was against arming blacks and not one of them had to do with the institution of slavery -- NOT ONE!!!!!!
As I read the final bill it appears to me Davis insisted on emancipation as a condition of service for the blacks.
Sure I disagree with Davis's actions, not because of the ideas you are trying to promote, but because simply another man on the line is always good to have. Looking at some Mississippi units, they were nearly wiped out in battle. Good white men dead and gone. I say that not in a racist way, but it is the idea you and Alan despite all references continue to promote. I can relate to a similar issue of today-- gays in the military. Obama made a promise DADT would be repealed, as of yesterday it had not been. My personal opinion and is everyone should have the right to be killed, maimed or turned into a pink vapor for their country.
