As Sherman said War is Hell, but those who died in prison were combat casualities the same as on the battlefield because U.S. Grant made the prison camps like Andersonville and Libby prison a battlefield with his no exchange policy. It is the same as the Wilderness, Spotsylvania or any of the other battles that he sent his men to a useless death in hopeless attacks.
