My ancestor served in Co. E, 10th TN Cavalry. According to Randy R., who has posted on the TN Message Board, this unit was detached by Gen. Forrest to serve under Captain Jack Hinson to cut telegraph wires for awhile in late 1863. You have probably heard of Jack Hinson. He was a famous sniper and a partisan leader. But, these men were from Stewart County, Middle TN and they had skin in THAT particular locale. Your ancestor was from Alabama. And the partisan connection of my ancestor prior to muster with the 10th TN may have been very brief. I believe it was a few months....six at the most and at least two and Major Napier organized his troops from Middle TN.
Bottom line is that I have a lot more research to work and you have even more. I hope we are successful.
