The Charleston newspaper printed that editorial that I quoted earlier, during the War, when, according to this figure of 65,000 there were three colored soldiers serving with every 100 whites throughout the CSA.
When the editorialist says this: "Skulkers, money lenders, money makers, and blood-suckers, alone will tolerate the idea." He is talking of every WHITE CSA soldier, who not only "tolerated" the idea, but fought side by side with the black CSA soldiers, and every white CSA officer who lead the black soldiers into battle.
Imagine the American soldier of WW2, especially doing duty in Italy. Beside every American on the battle line were other American soldiers of Italian descent.
Imagine if an editorial writer in San Diego or Cincinnati had published an article saying any American who entertains a notion of an "dago" soldier is a pimp, says something like anyone in the army who allows a "wop" soldier to fight is a limp wristed homosexual, the newspaper office would have been trashed by press time the next day.
The white CSA soldiers and officers did nothing to set the editorialist straight, apparently, and alllowed themselves to be called skulkers and bloodsuckers and cowards in the public press.
