It was a very proud time for us here in this town when our Vets got the Wall South up. Yes, it's half the size of the one in DC, but I can put my fingers on my best friends name. He was special to me for 19 years. Vietnam was an unpopular war but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. We all know of someone who didn't return ready and willing to pick up their life as it was before they were sent over there. The same honor should be shown to any vet from any war. The fact that the Confederate Veteran was fighting the United States does sound like it was wrong but (I really do hate this phrase) it is what it is. Just like slavery. It was legal at that time. Was everything perfect anywhere in this land? Nope. Some just tried a different way to solve their problems. It didn't work. Cutting corners, and you're probably right on that, is one step toward phasing out that time in the nations past. We've gotta go behind and chisel some stone.
I just got off the phone with my daughter. I'm waiting for my hubby to come home so we can go to the hospital. Our very first Great Grandson is going to may his presence known any minute. After I get that word "Great" out it gets much easier. My Grandson, the baby daddy, asked me a while back if when Brantley was old enough if I'd teach him of our Civil War family. Now I get it. Now I understand the entire picture. We are the last generation that does not have to look up everything to hold a simple conversation on the WBTS. We are the last of the school children who were even taught much on it. We have a big job to do but I cannot think of anything I wish to pass on that is as important as that family connection.
