Re: Virginia's Black Confederates

Jim,

I see no sources for Alan’s comments.

I have posted many sources and references. Everything that has been posted that Alan does not agree with is either wrong or these people are liars. he never considered that both governments had a spy system. Douglas and Greely both could have gotten information, right or wrong for a good Yankee dime.

I have no idea of the number, but I did post sources that to let everyone know where these numbers come from and YOU and Alan still disagree without posting any source to support your position. Myself I don't care one way or the other if blacks served in the Confederate army, I only care that history is accurately told. Who knows in ten years that number may be revised up or down, but right now at this point in time, it is the number we have to work with.

My position is solely this -- Historical accuracy and defense of my Confederate heritage. If my sources stand up to all challenges, then I can set a better defense against the "it was all about slavery" argument. So far I have not been proven wrong.

Now what is Alan's motive?????

You admit you are lees read than Alan, is it possible you are also less read than me? is it possible that Alan is less read than me regarding this subject. is it possible Alan is just being argument and opinionated since he rarely ever cites sources?

Plain and simple those men were fighting for the same reason the white men were fighting for -- their homes. I have read most of the slave narratives and researched the abuses inflicted on the blacks by the Yankee army. It is easy to see family and home was a major concern for them.

What difference does it make to you and Alan if 10,000,000 blacks fought for the South? Why is so important to you and Alan that few if any blacks served in the Confederate army? Can you prove the black cooks, teamsters, nurses were forced to help the Confederates? Seems you are implying that as a fact.

I have not made any attacks on Alan. I just want him to bring some reliable sources to the table to support his argument. When are you and Alan going to prove my sources wrong? You can’t and that is really the point that chaps ya’lls butt.

This was not about the constitutions of either the CSA or The USA it was about this statement which I have already gave full explanations to in earlier posts

"if blacks were already enrolled and had been from the beginning, why all the drama about the Cleburne proposal and the last-ditch effort to pass legislation to enable enlistment of slaves in Confederate military service?"

Real scholar? Are you saying I am stupid? Thank you kindly.

I believe you owe me an apology.
