The myth is that the Confederate government routinely enrolled slaves and free men of color in military units such as the ones we discuss regularly on the state message boards. According to myth, including integrated Confederate regiments, there were also companies, battalions and regiments made up of slaves and FMoC. For example, the New York Herald reported that two regiment of non-whites -- one made up of slaves and another of FMoC -- participated in the Battle of Manassas.
