Never been in that part of the world. Although my grandad enlisted in Ooltewah, he settled in Magazine, Arkansas after the war. And I, raised as a Yankee on the West Coast until disabused of that fact when my father, retired in Fayetteville, Ark., advised me of my Confederate ancestors, I then age 50!

I spent every summer of my life in that part of the world. My mother moved to Ohio. I knew of my dad's Russian ancestry. However I always though of my Civil War ancestors as Confederate, being as it was my mom's people who fought in the war. I would discover my East TN Unionist ancestors in my late 40's. Sounds like a parallel universe doesn't George?
