I was thinking more on the line of an industrial might and an agricultural rural people at war. The use of blacks to preform certain labor duties. I also doubt that most of the British, Boers, Yankees and Rebs wanted to socialize that much with their black porters. Also the fact of hard war and guerrilla activity.... There were statements in newspapers in both wars wanting to keep it a "White man's war." Perhaps there was Black Boers?
