Stan, that's a great article! One of the stories about the Murfreesboro raid not finished in the news article involves the Southern political prisoners in the jail. When the attack began, the Minnesota soldiers guarding the jail decided that the prisoners might be rescued. In order to avoid that possibility, the men from Minnesota decided to burn down the jail with prisoners still inside. Forrest's men overcame Yankee resistance and saved the prisoners from being burned alive. After the fighting ended and the Yankees were made prisoner, Wyeth tells how General Forrest administered justice to the Minnesota guards.
