That's why any contemporary written comments or statements by Confederate officials or newpapers outside of Louisiana and Mississippi using the racial indentification of "Creole" must be thought of as mixed raced; as the Richmond paper did in its story on the 10th Louisiana. Louisiana history books have stated that mulattos/quadroons, etc., were enlisted into Confederate Louisiana ranks as whites. Its easy to see that if challenged by those outside of Louisiana, saying they were Creole seemed to be acceptable.
