I could tell you one about Philip Duval, husband of Joseph E.'s sister Matilda, you may know the name from Duval St in Mobile and a lot of other buildings there. Around Ft Condi and Conti St. Then again, if you have a high opinion of him, ya might not want to hear it. :) I have no idea if any of those kids fought in the Civil War. I know 2 who did not. They were sent to a Convent in Cuba with Matilda when Philip said she was crazy. (Probably PMS) They were by her first husband and I do not know if they were boys or girls. Then he kept the property that was her inheritence from their father Benito Caro,( you know, Duval Street and a lot more in Mobile). They did have 2 children and he kept them. I think one of them married into the Semmes family (Adm. Semmes, CSS Alabama Semmes). An attorney in Mobile sent the records of that dirty dealings to a cousin a few years ago when he found them in the dusty drawer in the courthouse. Had he not found them, we never would have known the story. Some days lawyers send good things in the mail.
