Okay, tell us which convention members disagreed. Exactly what did they have to say on this subject?

The Confederate Constitution does mirror the U.S. Constitution as it existed in 1860 with few exceptions, notably with inclusion of specific rights regarding slavery. If convention members were concerned about other forms of property rights, such as the right to own cattle, horses and mules, we would expect to see language concerning four-footed beasts. Since no other form of property except slaves is referenced in the Confederate Consitution, rights of slave ownership must have been a major concern to the men who agreeed on this governing document. Unless we just want to ignore those sections, it's difficult to think otherwise.

Just my opinion, but slavery had been a bone of contention during all the adult lives of the men who wrote the Confederate Constitution. Wouldn't it make sense for those men to have used language to settle that conflict once and for all. I can't imagine that intelligent people would lay the groundwork for future conflicts over that issue by allowing admission of states whose laws made slave ownership illegal.
