George,
I thought it would interest you. If in your research you come across anything you would like to share about Lt. John Kirkland of the 3rd TN Mounted Infantry CSA, I would appreciate it. I have been working on a bio on him and his Union counterpart Tim Lyons for some time. Should you ever need any information on those Union partisans who opposed Vaughn, I would be glad to help.

My primary interest in the war has always been my Confederate and Union ancestors around Monroe, Polk, McMinn and Blount County TN and Cherokee County NC. Famous leaders and large battles, the existence of Black Confederates, Black Unionist or whatever doesn't concern me a great deal (in fact, not much at all). I like to read about the common man ancestor of my family and of families I have known.

Thanks,
James.
