I don't know if that was Lincoln's total intentions, but, He certainly wanted the presidency to have more power that it was supposed to have under the Constitution. Davis was preceptive enough to realize that what would become of the United States Government was going to be much closer to a monarchy or dictatorship that the previous adminstrations. Just to prove that point we only have to look at the problems we are having today dealing with our Government in its present form.
