Re: How About Something New?

Again The Slave issue was not JUST a Southern issue. It was a Constitutional issue because it was a practise that had been enforced for over 200 years prior to there even being a Continental Congress, a United States under the Articles of Confederation, or a Constitutional 'United States', During which under all of those governments and of England slavery was allowed in all of the territories they controlled. I wasn't the Federal Government which banned slavery in any of it territories except, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois. But the French and English had allowed it under their control in those territories, before that. All the other states had to ban it for themselves, as the south should have been allowed to do without federal interference.

Just because someone was of southern heritage does not mean that they were not conscientious and loyal to the law and to the Constitution as most people assume they were. And which is the common argument of the Unionist proponants.

The United States Government never banned or freed one slave until December 1865. Because under the United States Laws of the time even the Freed Contribands of the Emancipation Proclaimation were not freemen until then. A Presidental Proclaimation does not superceed United States law. So by law Lincoln and his menions were the ones who were in rebellion against the United States and the Constitution thereof.

Yet to cover their rebellion they had to make the defenders of the Constitution the bad guys. I.E. blame it on the southerns who did not have the political power without the Northern democrats to stop anything that the United States Congress might have done. And that was their political plan to cause the southern states to seceed to divide the power of the Democrat party. To start a war and make it look like the southerners started it.

And that is the sum total of all the lame shallow argument that can be mustered is that the evil old southern slave holders was the total cause of it all.
