He said something about being at Shreveport with Kirby Smith and serving in the Army of Northern Virginia. I don't know whether or not that line is in the original. In an effort to rationalize the line, I would note that Kirby Smith was in the Army of Northern Virginia until 1862 when he received a series of transfers that ultimately led him to the Trans-Mississippi Department. I suppose LeBoef could have been in the ANV, was on Smiths staff and transferred with him. I would also note that Quantrill's men behaved rather badly while in winter quarters in Texas, so there would be no love lost between them and Texans.
