My brother's father-in-law told me a neat story about "The Duke" visiting his unit, the 112th.Texas Cavalry on the front lines in New Guniea back in WWII.Wayne grabbed one of their 45s and fired it off in the jungle and then said,"Ya think I got any."

Is interesting the 112th Texas Cavalry Regiment was a pre-war mounted unit and they actually took their horses to the SW Pacific but left them at New Caledonia obviously figuring cavalry was not greatly suited for jungle fighting.I seem to recollect one of if not the last charge of a US cavalry outfit was on Luzon in December of 1941.Believe it was the 26th US Cavalry Regmt.under Wainwright and MacArthur.

Sure enjoyed my conversations with an old cavalryman.

You may also recollect John Wayne played Grierson on his raid thru Mississippi from LaGrange down to Baton Rouge in,"The Horse Soldiers."
