Not having something that close to 'home' in my lifetime, it's been hard to imagine how threatened people in the Southern states really felt. Now, I'm seeing things in a different light. Not only because of age, but with current events.
The division of citizens for a 'cause' can take on a life of its own and it can turn into a monster storm real fast. It may not always be geographic, but that doesn't mean it's not driven by honest emotion. Fear, concern, anger, all enough to make people dig in and stand up.
