On this date 150 years ago, the Confederate Constitution was provisionally adopted by the Montgomery convention. With several significant changes, the document closely resembled the United States Constitution, the changes having to do with the right to own slaves, the treatment of fugitive slaves and the power of sovereign states in the South.
