I see the comments are closed on this article. It's a shame even those who tried to defend Forrest did not have their facts straight. He was investigated and exonerated for Fort Pillow. He did bisband the KKK when it became violent and racist. It was reconstituted in Illinois in 1924, long after his death. The Klan as reborn paraded with the US flag, not the CBF. He tried to help black people after the WTBS, and was respected by those who knew him. Many blacks attended his funeral. And he did not say "fustest with the mostest." His grammar was far better than that. This canard was fostered by the Northern press. One should read his farewell speech to his troops, and his remarks to the "pole Bearers", the forerunner of the NAACP. Stan
