On the Redneck word--- it’s pretty much like that word that cannot be spoken except by those who one would be speaking it about and who use it all the time. They claim it belongs to them so they can use it. Well Redneck is ours. Someone said we in this town were Redneck Hillbilly’s one time. I overheard it at a café. I just sort of turned to him and said yes, we were Rednecks when we wished to be but never, ever say we are hillbilly’s. Florida is pretty dang flat. That term could not apply. Ok, so I didn’t say dang. The rest I own up to.
See, we sort of celebrate our Redneckness. Probably because any other celebration with that other name would be shut down or shouted out. The annual Redneck Christmas Parade in Chamuckla in Santa Rosa County is well attended and the floats are pretty much like something from one of those weddings Tom Arnold puts on on CMT. My Grandkids have had floats in it for a few years now. One got the honor of riding on the ‘throne’ this last Christmas. It is funny. Probably because it is locals doing it. If one is not from the South, they wouldn’t get it. It would 747 them. So we do not even try to explain it.
