Indeed. I think Buchanan was pacing the floor of the foyer at The White House waiting to get the hell out of Dodge. I loved the quote in the HBO mini-series "John Adams" when Washington tapped Adams on the shoulder and said "you are fairly in, and I am fairly out." I doubt there is a man that held the office that wasn't glad to see his time end.
