Re: The Union Fired First...at Pensacola

Ya know, I've read that statement from Porter a number of times and it always sounded like there was a sentence left out. You're right! How did he know? He did have those 'orders' and he did stop off at FT Jefferson. Hmmmm, something has NOT been picked up by a whole lot of 'people'. Wonder why?

Do we know if another ship landed at Jefferson or came up on the Powhatten to give the news? I don't remember seeing anything like that and it's the only reason I can think of except the 'following orders' thing.

I have some articles that Baars wrote on Pickens and other areas here. Daddy saved them in a scrapbook and I didn't even see them until after he'd passed away. He knew I'd find them.

Oh, Gannett revamped their websites and our local mullett wrapper now has 'achived' editorials that ya have to pay for if they're like over a week old. Jesse Earle Bowden has been running a couple of them that are very well done. I have always liked him and his cartoons but his editorials are great. He's been writing a few on the 'anniversary'. One was on Robert E. Lee's words. I don't think it's archived yet.

I'm trying to find the one he wrote about Sumter and in it he did mention the 'unwritten about' gunshots at Barrancas hours before Sumter was active.
