I can agree with those goals.
But I have also found that many are still afraid to take those "more actice stands" because of fear of the power of the opposition. Courage is a rare thing in men, we are still at war. Not a shooting war but no less a war of a different type, and sometime courage is often looked upon as being foolhardy.
Even the best and the bravest of our ancestors had to be trained before he became an effective soldier in battle. And yes the brave one became the leaders who could get the most out of their men. But only after they learned how to work together and fight the battles that they could win. We are in such a battle now.
I have heard all the arguements of why southerners don't join the SCV. And don't get me wrong I am not a recruiter for the SCV althought I am a life member. When I joined 25 years ago there weren't 5,000 member nationwide and the whole organization was run out of one mans garage. Now there are 30,000 and if the dues were not so high there would be more.
We are winning battles for our symbols in courts of law and having those symbols placed on License plate for our cars in many state. And we are doing these things because we are an organization of over 30,000 and because people see thousands of re-enactors dressed in Confederate uniforms and the Confederate battle flag flying at major re-enactments. Something that in 1986 at the 1st major military re-enactment in the United States at Manassass, Virginia flying the Confederate Battle flag was something we were afriad that we would not be able to do because of the sentiment against that flag then.
Lets not lose sight of the whole forrest because we can not see around one tree.
