On this date 150 years ago, Beauregard received word from the Confederate Secretary of War, Leroy Pope Walker, that he was to require the surrender of Fort Sumter from the Federals. All around the fort, Confederate troops prepared for the expected conflict; a floating battery wasd stationed by the rebels off Sullivan's Island in Charleston Harbor.
