Re: The Civil War Forgotten in the North

It may shame them and it would be a noble thing for Southerners to do. But, as the writer said, and as I have found over the years befriending many Northerners, as a percentage they do not have the same attachment to the war Southerners have. My acquaintances did/do not understand the meaning of remembering an event many did not have a connection to, either by blood or geography. Talking about the history of the Civil War is as remote to most as one of the Roman Civil Wars 2,000 years ago.

If it is left to Southerners to remember the Northern fallen, all the fallen, then we have come full circle and are left strangley alone as the people to morally do the right thing. I believe on some scale we have been treating our ancestors enemies memories with honor since the war. Southerners have always had respect for the dead. Stepping it up a notch would show the world the quality of people our ancestors produced.
