The 'fly in the ointment' in his argument is that states would never have really considered leaving the union over the "price of sorghum." That's the very reason he can, (in my mind ), be discounted as anything but a PC talking head. Many of those soldiers who participated in the Civil War were the children or grandchildren of those who thought the price of tea was a bit high. That started a war. Maybe he needs to have a crash course in history because he's leaving holes in his bucket of knowledge wide open for the content to fall. In the end, he's a bit short on ammo and info.
Those who make the rude remarks on the Tea Party are doing so knowing very well what they are saying. They do not think others may 'be aware' of the 'hidden' meaning. It is intended as a slur. Just as the comments we all have heard all of our lives that those in the South who hold on to their "Flag" are members of a group we all despise because they've not acted with honor.
Politics is a dirty business and it’s never going to be different. I lost faith in any elected person doing the ‘right’ thing years ago. They’re all on the take from some group or other. Does anyone really think any historian will get any air time if they’re giving a pro Southern view with the current administration? Nope, not gonna happen.
