1.Tariff, before the war 75% of the money to operate t5he Federal goverment was from the southern states by way of an unfair tariff on imported goods. Only 10% of this money was being returned to the south
2.Centralization vs States Rights, the North wanted to and did end alter the form of goverment that this nation was founded upon. The Confederate States fought to preserve the Constitutional Limited Federal Goverment aqs established by Amercia's founding fathers
3.Christianity vs Secular Humanism, the South believed in Christianity as the Bible presented it. The North had many secular humanism bellievers.
4.Cultural Differences, the Southerners were basically Western English, Scottish and Irish. Northerners were Anglo-Saxons and Danish

9.Slavery, an indirect cause of the war. Most Southerners did not own slaves but believed the the North had no Constitutional fright to free slaves held by citizens of Southern States. (They did not try to free Northern slaves)
