On this date 150 years ago, The 7th New York Regiment arrived in Washington, D.C., much to President Lincoln's relief.

In a secret action against the pro-secessionists in Missouri, Captain James H. Stokes of Chicago, Illinois, went to St.Louis, Missouri, from Alton, Illinois. Upon arrival, he and his men removed 10,000 muskets from the arsenal, returning to Alton the next morning with munitions for Illinois troops.
