Ok, in looking at the map it makes sense. It would be as if Slemmer had decided to stay at Barrancas. Probably, as we see the numbers of troops Fl had on hand in that time and place, would have worked. Advanced Redoubt was in place as a stop gap from anyone coming over land behind them, or at least that's what it was meant to do. Those redoubts are all over town and as Galvez and others learned, one day they work, the next day, maybe not.

If I remember right, when Anderson went to Sumter, he said he had months worth of food supply items and a number of other stores but the communication to DC later was a cry for help in the department store. They were low on everything.

Oh Snap!!!! The cat just jumped 4 feet off the floor. The Blues are home from whatever airshow they were flying in today. Their new flight pattern takes them just over our tree line. Kinda neat, but not for the cat.

It sounds and looks like the defense system in place at that time for both harbors were almost alike. Mobile Bay had Ft Morgan and Gaines. Almost every inch of the pass into the harbor could be covered but only if they were all wearing the same uniform. Somehow that uniform color changed everything.
