Re: Black CS Company in Montgomery?

David:

Really interesting! I know that real, authenticated, voluntary/volunteer Black Confederates are few and far between (not counting the New Orleans Native Guards -- 1100 "Free Men of Color" who volunteered for the LA Militia!), but they did exist, and, no matter their proportions in comparison to USCT or non-volunteer Black labor in the PACS, their service, history, and motivations should be recognized and remembered. Hey! Can you site the thus-far unfound original reference(s) here so that others of us can look for them, too? Thanks! -- Jim Huffman, whose GGG-grandmother Huffman was living with a Free Man of Color in 1850 in LA! (Yeah -- the family's always been liberal!)
