Look up the history of "Oaths of Allegiance" especially how our ancestors felt about the "Ancient Oaths of Allegiance" to the King. Where it had been the law that every layman above age 12 had to take the oath and have it recorded by the local officials. It was a religious and pepetual solem duty to the King. It is strange after reading about it that we have taking up an old habit we fought to rid ourselves from.
