Did you notice in this affirmation the reference against a centralized government?

"I will bear true faith and yield obedience to the Confederate States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against their enemies."

'the Confederate STATES" being plurel and "I will serve THEM" and "Against THEIR enemies" also being plurel referring to the several States as individuals bounded together in a group, and not a singular body. Clearly a reference to the soveriegn status of the individual states and not as 'One Nation under God'.
