That's what I thought so strange. It's everywhere. Warrington was trying to figure out how to build and I guess he just did not bother to ask if there were materials nearby. We used to go get clay from the bluff on Perdidio Bay not far from Wolf Bay and Spanish Cove to use in pottery uhoh's.

Oddly, they did import bricks or clay from Mobile when the construction first began. When William Chase came in and began Ft Barrancas he had kilns made and used local brickmakers and masons and stopped the use of those shipped from Alabama.

It sounds like before Chase came to sort out the mess, it was another example of the US Govt at work doing what it does best ---wasting money.
