Dog River in Mobile? That was the site of a large permanent Confederate camp, and it was the flank of the defences of Mobile. I was born right between the Dog River and Mobile Bay at the old Brookley AFB hospital. I remember the areas, years and years ago, where there were ruins of factories along the upper part of the river (not more than a creek at that part) and I was told as a child they went back to the Civil War period. I wonder if those ruins were where the swords were made?
