I understand Jamie. I really do. I have a copy of my 6xGGrandmothers will that leaves slaves to her children. She was the Aunt of Alexander Hamilton but ended up in Elbert County Georgia when my 6xGGrandfather got land in the 1812 veterans lottery. Perhaps things like this could be one reason we try so hard to keep the "context of the time" as relevant in the telling of our family story.

One of the most difficult situations for me to understand is the number of indentured men and women who came into Georgia and other places, worked off their indenture, then became slave owners. Many of them were of lines that had been in servitude in Scotland and other places. Kinda strange way of thinking if you think on it too long. Guess that's why we hope we learn from the past to we do not repeat it. Not sure some of our lawmakers got that memo though.
