On this date 150 years ago, seizure of pro-Southern newspapers continued as offices in West Chester and Easton, Pennsylvania, were attacked by loyal Unionists. An "Essex County Democrat" editor in Haverhill, Massachusetts, was tarred and feathered for similar Southern sympathies expressed in the newspaper.
In an action which does little to settle the discord in Missouri, the Congress of the Confederacy allied with that state, essentially providing for the establishment of a Confederate state government.
