On this date 150 years ago, President Jefferson Davis approved the addition of more commissioners to represent the Confederacy in Europe. It was hoped that supplies and armaments, so necessary to Southern victory, could be obtained from France, Britain, and Spain.

Skirmishing continued in Missouri: Jonesboro was the site of fighting which followed clashes between Union and Confederate forces at Klapsford several days earlier.
